Montecillo Teases Home Buying Options

By Armando Landin

As the Montecillo smart growth community's progress moves slowly but surely to the west, its home-buying options are getting a little clearer.

Construction should begin soon in an area that will be comprised of townhomes and single family homes not too far from the existing apartment buildings just off of Mesa Street in West El Paso.

Few details are available, but the Montecillo website gives an idea of what can be expected in terms of square footage and pricing.

According to the site, townhomes will be available in two different styles, "Spanish" and contemporary. They will be located in two separate projects, each consisting of 61 units.

The townhome units will range from 1,600 to 1,800 square feet and will be three stories tall. They will also have two car garages, most likely accessible through access ways behind the buildings.

Prices will start in the low $200,000's and will include access to "common areas" within the development.

Single family homes will be two stories each and also include two car garages. Multiple floor plans will be available, with homes ranging from 2,200 to 2,500 square feet.

The single family homes will be priced from the low $300,000's. According to the a property flyer, 57 homes are planned in this phase.

These will be the first residential units available for purchase at the Montecillo development. Units at the Venue at Montecillo and Santi Dwellings buildings are available for rental only.

Development plans filed in recent years indicate that the townhomes and single family homes will be located west of the current construction at the Montecillo site and could serve as a sort of buffer between the more urban Smart Code areas and existing neighborhoods to the north.

This is one of the latest projects to move forward at the nearly 300 acre Montecillo development. Other projects currently underway include a Town Center, Downtime office building, and a myriad of smaller projects.
