New Murals Add Public Art to Montecillo Development

The Montecillo smart growth development in West El Paso has commissioned muralists to add public art to the walls of its structures. Australia based street artist Fintan Magee and San Diego based Christopher Konecki have joined resident artist EXIST1981 in contributing work at the site.

Most of the art is concentrated in the TI:ME at Montecillo center, though Magee is putting the finishing touches on a four-story mural at the Santi Dwellings to the west. Konecki is working on multiple pieces on the sides of shipping containers used as structures at TI:ME.

'Down TI:ME' now Under Construction at Montecillo

A planned new addition to TI:ME at Montecillo is now under construction at West El Paso's smart growth development, according to a press release.

Dubbed "Down TI:ME," the building will be constructed just west of the existing retail and restaurant area at the corner of Mesa Street and Montecillo.

TI:ME at Montecillo is the newest addition to open at the smart growth development in West El Paso, and now a video has debuted showing the transformation of the space into the "non-traditional" shopping center.

‘TI:ME at Montecillo’ Prepares for Thursday Grand Opening

Construction on ‘The View’ Nearing Completion; ‘Santi Dwellings’ Marching Along

The developer of the brand new TI:ME at Montecillo shopping center in West El Paso opened the doors to three eateries in a “soft opening” last week. The official grand opening will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2014.

Stonewood Modern American Grill, Hillside Coffee & Donut Co., and Malolam Cantina are all now open daily in a run up to grand opening day. The doors to each eatery are steps away from each other in the intimate layout of the center.

TI:ME is a self-described “non-traditional” shopping center in an urban, smart growth setting within the Montecillo development. The creators have used varying building materials throughout the center, particularly on the facades of the restaurants, to help distinguish each space.

The design also includes repurposed shipping containers which may house retail uses, such as clothing stores, home decor, and a “beauty bar.” A total of ten retailers were announced earlier this year, with spaces for the tenants ranging from 80 to 1,200 square feet.

‘TI:ME’ Teases New Restaurants as Opening Nears

Non-Traditional Center Introducing Three Eateries to Montecillo Development

One of the newest sections of the Montecillo smart growth project in West El Paso will open up three new eateries in the coming weeks, and the developer is using social media to provide glimpses into the future restaurants.

TI:ME at Montecillo, a self-described “non-traditional” shopping center, has plans to open a casual grill house, a cantina serving Mexican-style street food, and a donut and coffee shop at the corner of Mesa Street and Montecillo Drive.

TI:ME at Montecillo Debuts New Website

‘Non-Traditional’ Shopping Center to Open this Year 

An urban, compact shopping center that is part of the Montecillo smart growth development in West El Paso has debuted its new website. The site for TI:ME at Montecillo, which bills itself as a “non-traditional” shopping center, can now be found at itistimeelpaso.com.

The center will have 12,000 square feet of leasable space, with options ranging in size from 80 to 1,200 square feet. It will be anchored by three new full service restaurants, owned and operated by the same restaurant group that created Crave Kitchen and Bar, 1914 Loung, and the Independent Burger.

TI:ME at Montecillo Unveils Tenant Lineup

The upcoming TI:ME at Montecillo "non-traditional" shopping center posted an announcement today showing its tenant lineup. The center's Facebook page made the announcement with a simple message: "This is TI:ME."

Names include previously announced tenants HommeWork, GlowDry, Modern Hookah, and Black Dot.

New to the list are ALDesign, Le Trendy, Trendy:Decor, HommeWork Jewelry, and The Backyard Patio. The tenant list includes a mix of clothing, home decor, and outdoor living retailers.

Three eateries are also on the list, Stonewood Modern American Grill, Cantina Malolam, and Hillside Coffee & Donut Co. According to previous media reports, the development trio behind the TI:ME shopping center will also own and operate the three restaurants.

The center should open in the coming months on Mesa Street at the smart growth Montecillo development.

Montecillo Makes Big Moves

Project Readies for Town Center, Westward Expansion

Site preparation has finally begun on what will eventually become the Montecillo Town Center, part of the 292-acre Montecillo SmartCode development on El Paso’s West Side. Crews are clearing the way for the development’s “Entertainment District” which will house the Alamo Drafthouse movie theater that was announced as the first tenant earlier this year.

Construction machinery is helping to clear and level the site of the future Montecillo Town Center. The Alamo Drafthouse theater will be located here.

The property is currently a valley between two hills with relatively steep slopes on the eastern side of Mesa Street across from the Venue at Montecillo’s two northernmost apartment buildings. Parts of the property will be levelled to make construction of buildings more viable.

According to the Town Center’s leasing package, the project will add 37,000 square feet of big box retail, 80,000 square feet of “street” retail, and 56,200 square feet of commercial space. The move theater will consist of a 31,100 square foot building with 910 seats.

The View at Montecillo will offer housing options for seniors in El Paso. The 150-unit structure is under construction on El Paso’s west side.

There are 99 residential units planned for the site which will be incorporated into mixed-use buildings. And 1,165 parking spaces will be spread out among surface lots, parking structures, and on-street parking.

Retail Buzz: TI:ME at Montecillo Reveals Two More Tenants

One of El Paso more unique retail developments, TI:ME at Montecillo, has recently revealed two more retailers that will be located at its center. Black Dot, a clothing store, and GlowDry, a “beauty bar”, have been “welcomed” by TI:ME’s Facebook page.

The “non-traditional” retail and restaurant center slated for the corner of Mesa Street and Montecillo Drive is one of the latest additions to the Montecillo development in west El Paso. The 12,000 square foot center is incorporating re-conditioned shipping containers in some of the construction. A mass of shipping containers of different colors can be seen just off of Mesa Street.

Construction began earlier this year on the project, driven by the creators/owners of Crave Kitchen and Bar and 1914 Lounge. Previously revealed tenants for the TI:ME center include HommeWork clothing boutique and Modern Hookah.

Shopping Center Hints at Retailers on Facebook

Two recent postings on the Facebook page for the upcoming TI:ME at Montecillo "non-traditional" shopping  center have revealed possible tenants that may occupy space when the center opens.

The pictures simply say "TI:ME at Montecillo Welcomes" with a logo for the potential new tenant situated below the wording. One picture on the site is for HommeWork (hommework.com), a clothing boutique currently located on Stanton Street in the Cincinnati entertainment area near UTEP.

The second possible tenant is Modern Hookah (facebook.com/ModernHookah) which currently shares its address with The Garden restaurant and nightclub in downtown El Paso.

No word if these will be additional locations or if a move is planned for either retailer.

TI:ME at Montecillo Introduces Layout

A “non-traditional” retail and restaurant center slated for the corner of Mesa Street and Montecillo Drive has introduced its site plan in a new brochure. TI:ME at Montecillo is the newest addition to the Montecillo development in west El Paso and is driven by the creators/owners of Crave Kitchen and Bar and 1914 Lounge.

According to the brochure, a “cluster of seven unique buildings” will surround a “central gathering space,” a couple of which will house two restaurants and a coffee shop. A total of 12,000 square feet of leasable space makes up the center, with spaces ranging from 80 to 1,200 square feet. Rental rates begin at $200 a month.

The brochure promises a “lush and green” environment, with landscaping “like no other space in town.” It also highlights the use of re-conditioned shipping containers in some of the construction.

The creators of the center are targeting entrepreneurs and will offer free seminars on a monthly basis, hosted by business professionals, including lawyers, graphic designers, architects, and business consultants. There will also be meeting space made available to tenants, free WiFi, and “communal” advertising.

The trio behind the project, Octavio Gomez, Nick Salgado, and Rudy Valdes, have formed Pan Y Agua LLC, the new name for their restaurant and bar group. Construction began earlier this year on the project with walls going up within that last few weeks.

Project Gets New Facebook Page

The upcoming TI:ME at Montecillo retail and restaurant area on North Mesa Street will be partially constructed by reusing shipping containers, and now you can see one become a work of art in a new video released on Vimeo.

The time lapse video shows a short overview of activities at the Montecillo SmartCode development site before focusing on the shipping container that will be used as a public art monument at the TI:ME location, according to previously released renderings of what the final structure will look like when it's completed.

TI:ME at Montecillo has a new Facebook page.

A new Facebook page was recently created for the TI:ME at Montecillo project. The developers behind the project, Nick Salgado, Octavio Gomez and Rudy Valdes, have stated that they plan to open three new restaurants simultaneously at the site, a coffee shop, a Mexican cantina serving street food, and a casual steakhouse. There will be other retail spaces available at TI:ME.
