On Montwood Drive on the East Side of the city, crews continue work on a project to alleviate flooding issues caused by storm water on the roadway. Work on constructing box culverts continues, currently underway between Trinidad and Honolulu Drives in the vicinity of Eastwood High School.

Detours remain in place, with all traffic currently using the southern side of Montwood Drive. Work on the $11 million project began in January of 2013 with a construction time length of 24 months, which means work could be completed by early 2015.
Meanwhile, on the West Side, the years-long project to improve Country Club Road is also seeing progress. The most visible signs have come in the form of landscaping and lighting installation between Willow Creek Circle and Santa Teresita Drive, in a portion of the road that crosses the Rio Grande River.
Crews are installing old-fashioned, globe light fixtures along the roadway. Preparations are underway to install similar lighting between Doniphan Drive and Love Road. Work also includes new sidewalks.
Utility work continues, as crews install new sanitary sewer and water lines between Love Road and Montoya Road. And Texas Gas Service is installing a new gas line between Montoya Road and Willow Creek Circle.
Detours for the project, which has seen a complete closure of the roadway, require commuters to drive longer routes as alternate routes are located quite a distance from Country Club Road in the somewhat rural area.
Construction on the $15.6 million project is expected to be completed in early 2015, though some lanes could open to traffic as early as November, according to the City’s website (www.elpasotexas.gov).
