The City of El Paso will hold a community meeting on Tuesday to provide updates on construction of the Downtown baseball stadium. According to the meeting notice, the City may move forward with a schedule which includes construction work that will continue 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The more intense construction schedule is likely due to a fast-approaching opening day, a date tentatively set for April 11, 2014, just over two months away. Crews recently put the last piece of steel in place, another step in the stadium’s road to reality.
City officials have not committed to a date for the stadium’s opening, citing forces beyond their control as preventing a date from being chosen, such as weather. The Triple-A Chihuahua’s schedule may also be a factor: the team plays only four home games from April 11th through the 14th, then not another home game until April 28th.
If officials wait until late April to open the ballpark, this gives crews more than two additional weeks for construction. In this scenario, the team would need to find another venue in which to play its first four “home” games.
Other items that will be discussed at the meeting include the reconstruction of Missouri Avenue on the stadium’s northern side, and details on landscaping, fencing, brickwork, and other hardscape work at the ballpark site.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. at the Scottish Rite Temple at 301 West Missouri Avenue at Santa Fe Street.
