The historic Bassett Tower in Downtown El Paso is undergoing a transformation thanks to local investors, and now the project to open an Aloft Hotel at the site has received a facade improvement grant.

Work is underway on the adaptive reuse project which will turn the 15-story former office building into a 100 room hotel. Bassett Tower was completed in 1930 and designed by Henry Trost, making the building architecturally significant and a historic landmark.
The Downtown Management District has approved a $25,000 reimbursement grant for the Aloft project as part of its Facade Improvement program. The program, which has been in place for years, encourages owners of Downtown buildings to make improvements to the outside of their buildings.
Bassett Partners EP is behind the project, lead by Downtown renovation force Lane Gaddy, who is also spearheading other projects in the heart of the city including the Martin Lofts just a block away. That project turned another historically significant building into loft apartments.

The Aloft Hotel will be located at 301 Texas Avenue and will include a W XYZ Bar, an indoor pool, and 3,000 square feet of meeting space. Aloft is part of the Starwood brand of hotels and resorts which also includes W, Westin, and Sheraton hotel lines.
Aloft had originally announced an opening date of July 2016, but the hotel's website now states an opening date in April 2017.
