The firm chosen by the City of El Paso to help determine the sites for the Quality of Life ‘Signature Projects’ will hold the first of four public outreach workshops today. HKS, Inc. of Dallas will be introduced at the March 26 meeting and will outline steps for the proposed Master Plan Study.

The three signature projects approved by voters in 2012 include a Multipurpose Cultural and Performing Arts Facility (Arena), a Children’s Museum, and a Hispanic Cultural Center. Seventy-one percent of voters approved the measure.
At the meeting, HKS will present initial findings of the site analysis. The public is being asked to attend and participate in determining what “each facility should look like, feel like, and (how it should) contribute to our community.”
There will be three additional meetings, the last of which will be held July 2 at which point the Final Plan and HKS’s recommendation will be presented. HKS is also tasked with creating detailed business plans, determining the size and scope of each facility, and creating “synergy” among the facilities.
The three projects are proceeding according to a three-year plan that was approved by City Council in February 2013. The Children’s Museum and Hispanic Cultural Center will move forward with design and construction first, with the Arena on a lengthier timeline. The design process could begin as early as 2015.
Wednesday’s meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the El Paso Convention Center.
