'Urban' Hotel Planned at Montecillo Development

By Armando Landin

El Pasoans are getting and updated look at the Montecillo smart growth development on the West Side, which includes possible future highlights such as a "unique urban hotel."

That's according to website updates which tease new elements planned for the nearly 300-acre development.

A new "Stay" section has been added to the revamped site and teases a future hotel planned for Montecillo. According to the page, the development "will be home to a unique urban hotel that puts you in the heart of it all... For business travel or affordable, family-friendly vacations."

No hotel brand has been announced nor has an exact location within the development.

Another new addition teased at the site is called The Clubhouse which looks to be a structure that can host "numerous activities and events." As with the hotel, no other details are yet available, though a rendering shows what the structure may look like.

In the "Live" section of the site, more details have been revealed regarding townhomes and single family homes that will be available for purchase in the future. And another residential building, TRE Live/Work Condominiums, is teased on the "Directory" section.

The Town Center plan is still being developed, according to the "Commercial" section of the site. It will offer 104,000 square feet of retail space (including a grocery store), 185 apartment units, and 20,000 square feet of office space.

A brand new rendering of a Town Center building shows decidedly modern architecture, though the final design plan has not been revealed. An Alamo Drafthouse movie theater recently opened as the first tenant at the Town Center.

Montecillo is located on a wide swath of land, mostly between Mesa Street and Interstate 10, south of Festival Drive. The Town Center is on the east side of Mesa Street.
