The City of El Paso recently broke ground on a new attraction at the El Paso Zoo. Work is underway on a wildlife theater that will host live animal shows at the park in Central El Paso.

The wildlife amphitheater will seat 300 people in the open-air venue which will contain a canopy overhead, according to renderings of the project.
Shows at the theater will include flighted birds and animal encounters, and it will be available for lectures, concerts, and other shows. In addition, the venue will have animal living spaces for reptiles, mammals, birds and invertebrates, It will be located near the main entrance of the Zoo.
This project is funded as part of the $46 million that voters approved for the Zoo in 2012 as part of the Quality of Life bond initiative.

Dantex Construction of El Paso is the contractor on the $1.98 million theater project. No completion date is indicated on the Zoo's website, though the contract with Dantex Construction is for eight months of work.
