Getting into the Asia area at the El Paso Zoo will look a lot different in the future and will even include a new carousel. The City of El Paso is set to award the design and consultation contract for the Asia Gateway project.

After the project is completed, a new path will take visitors around the northern side of the Asian Discovery Center and through a new "gateway" between it and the Grasslands Cafe.
The new carousel will be located in a landscaped area approaching the Asia area, with a planned shade structure overhead.
The current path takes visitors to the south of the two buildings and a service area that is located behind the buildings.

Design of the Asia Gateway and surrounding landscaped areas should take four months with construction expected to last 12 months.
The City will consider awarding the $111,200 contract to PGAV Destinations, Inc., of Missouri at its April 5, 2016 meeting, paid for by 2012 Quality of Life bonds approved by voters. PGAV has designed zoo and aquarium projects throughout the country.
